urban mobility*
*particularly public and active transportation.
Recently, I've been very curious about low-cost ways to restructure streets to increase pedestrian and cycling safety. I love bike-sharing, trams and single transportation cards for all types of transit.
desire paths
Desire paths are a testament to defiance against rigid infrastructure. They reveal the friction between urban design and the organic flow of human movement, both a blessing and a curse. On one hand, they expose shortcomings in street planning, highlighting where streets fail to meet the needs of pedestrians. Yet, they serve as invaluable guides, leading us to areas ready for improvement. By acknowledging and rectifying these discrepancies, we can reshape our streets into safer, more people-centric spaces.
DIY urbanism
I've been a long-term fan of DIY urbanism, particularly because such community-led efforts like parklets, guerrilla gardening, community libraries, etc. create short-term results that set new expectations for what our urban spaces should be like. I also occasionally partake in guerrilla crocheting.
